CABELA'S KID FISH DAY JUNE 8, 2013

SEA SAN ANTONIO KIDFISH

With conservation at the heart of SEA’s mission, its pulse clearly is to engage  youth in that mission.  Kidsfish is a program whose purpose to engage youth is accomplished through education and recreation.

Events begin with a tour of the Marine Development Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.   Groups of 30 to 45 kids are bused  from San Antonio to visit this state-operated hatchery.  The center’s   conservation efforts are founded in the production of juvenile red drum and spotted sea trout for release into Texas bays for stock enhancement.

After touring the center, the kids are served a picnic lunch, provided and prepared by SEA volunteers.  Then it’s off to the rearing ponds for catch-and-release fishing.   Here the kids reel in a good time as conservation comes to life with each and every catch.

Prizes are then awarded in the spirit of friendly competition, and participation medals presented to each young angler.

The event wraps up with the group off to  a trip to the Corpus Christi State Aquarium where the kids tour the facility and then return home.

Another KidsFish event involves SEA volunteers who treat young men and women from San Antonio  Presbyterian Children’s Homes to a day of bays and flats fishing out of Rockport, Texas in their private boats.

KidsFish serves a diverse group of children and youth, and SEA is proud to have sponsored this event for the San Antonio Downtown Youth Center, Mission Road Developmental Center, Hawthorne Elementary and Presbyterian Children’s Homes.  In 2009, SEA will be adding Boysville to its growing list of organizations served through KidsFish.

All expenses related to KidsFish are paid by SEA.  Fundraising efforts and contributions from the public make this possible.

SEA is proud to have made its own contributions to the Marine Development Center specifically in support of KidsFish.  Those contributions include the purchase of rods and reels, as well as the construction of custom picnic tables, all for use during KidsFish events.

KidsFish not only cultivates memories of a special fishing trip, it forges an impression of conservation that is carried into the future.  The investment in our youth will reap benefits for generations to come.

Please consider a contribution to this worthwhile program.   Sponsorships are available through the home page shopping cart, as well as at the annual Casino Night Banquet & Fundraiser.
